Overlooked: Stories Hidden Underwater

Join the 2024 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Grant Title Winner, Shane Gross, who offers an in depth look at a life spent revealing overlooked realms beneath the surface. He guides the audience through remote islands, seagrass meadows, mangrove creeks, freshwater lakes, and deep water reefs, meeting sharks, whales, seahorses, tadpoles, and the human heroes who protect them.

Shane shares how he pursues unique, original stories with measurable conservation impact, demonstrating how rigorous fieldwork, patient observation, and visual storytelling can shift public understanding and policy. This session blends natural history with practical methods, showing how images can document behaviour, evidence habitat change, and support protection of wildlife and wild places.

Who this is for:
• Photographers, filmmakers, and picture editors seeking to elevate conservation storytelling
• Scientists, marine rangers, and NGO teams who want to communicate research and fieldwork more effectively
• Educators, students, and programme leads developing curriculum and outreach around ocean literacy
