Muga, When She Stops Flowing, So Will We
Muga, When She Stops Flowing, So Do We” is a 25-minute documentary exploring a groundbreaking social and ecological regeneration initiative in Catalonia, Spain’s Pyrenees. Narrated by the River Muga, the film underscores the critical role of forest management in combating drought, bushfires, and water shortages, which impact the Darnius-Boadella dam and Northern Costa Brava. The story centers on Stef, a Dutch entrepreneur whose 900 km Pyrenees hike leads him to the Muga Valley, where he transforms ruins into “The Home,” a hub for global collaborators. Through the “Pioneers of Our Time” foundation, Stef fosters community engagement and ecological restoration, attracting experts to revitalize the forest and local economy. Efforts include forest thinning to increase water flow, reintroducing species, and organizing community festivals. The ultimate goal is to create a blueprint for regenerative societies in Mediterranean valleys. Stef’s journey also intertwines with Vicky, whose hospitality ventures align with his mission, culminating in a shared vision for sustainable social and environmental change.
