This talk covers my personal and professional journey from academia in both science and visual arts, to a career in commercial photography and advertising before finally combining those disciplines by merging climate analysis with high adventure and a fine art approach to visually recording the high latitudes.
My career path reflects a recipe of curiosity and passion, which have defined my brand and centres on communications methods that address one of the 21st century’s greatest challenges: the realignment of human and nature’s priorities.
I will describe and illustrate this process of self-discovery and self-actualisation, which has been central to my mission, coupled with the higher purpose and lofty ambition to shepherd a market transition to a more empathetic and sustainable future.
Having spent over 30 years travelling the more extreme latitudes of the planet, I will cover some expeditions to the North and South poles of my seminal e and my approach to documenting nature in its fiercest and most antagonistic conditions.
Nature photography, by definition, imposes a contemplation on patience, introspection and the humility of being at the mercy of variables outside our control. This requires crucial techniques, including planning, attitude, persistence, and instinct to capitalise on any circumstance. The talk will address my personal and philosophical outlook on photographing the ice and its inhabitants and how this can relate to any other discipline.
