There are a huge number of photography competitions available to enter, so how do you choose which ones are right for you and your photography? In this workshop we’ll talk you through the things you need to consider when choosing competitions that are the best fit for you, the pitfalls to avoid, plus the importance of the judging panel. We’ll also look at how to go about entering and using the competition to enhance and grow you photography profile.

With so many photo competitions to choose from, many of which have an entry fee, choosing the wrong one can be expensive, both in time and money. Frank Meo is a leading New York photographers’ agent and competition judge; Chris Coe a professional photographer and the founder of the international Travel Photographer of the Year awards. He has also judged many other photo competitions. Together they take a look at the world of competitions and what you need to know to choose the right ones for you.

Photography competitions and awards aren’t just about prizes. Doing well, even if you don’t win, in the right competition can boost your profile as a photographer and get your images seen by a worldwide audience. In this workshop, Frank and Chris will help you to find the right competitions, talk you through how to put your entry together and understand what the judging panel will be looking for

Photo competitions are not only a good way to compare and contrast your images with those of your peers – a useful benchmark for how your photography is progressing – but they are also an opportunity for you to promote yourself to people who might be interested in showing, buying or commissioning your photography. You must think of them as a strategic part of doing business, not an afterthought! Significantly, Chris and Frank will share with you the various business networking opportunities that entering photo competitions can / must create.

Frank and Chris will walk you through whole process from start to finish, giving guidance on how to maximise your chances of picking up an award and getting exposure for your photography. Once you’ve found the right competition for you, this starts with choosing the right images to enter and making sure you maximise their impact when they come before the judging panel. With their numerous years of judging they’ll share real world experiences on how to maximize both your chances and turn the initial exposure into practical business results.

In this workshop you’ll gain an insight into how competitions work, how they’re judged and how you can use them to make you photography shine.
