Creative Night Photography

Explore the realm of creative and abstract night photography in this engaging workshop led by an experienced instructor. Participants will move beyond traditional night landscapes, discovering the artistry within techniques such as silhouettes, painting with light, ICM, light trails, zoom burst, and forced bokeh.

The workshop will serve as a platform for participants to utilize their cameras as tools for artistic expression, transforming the night into a canvas for abstract art and creative exploration. Fundamental concepts such as painting with light, creating light trails, mastering the panning technique, and experimenting with zoom burst and forced bokeh will be covered. Participants will delve into the intricacies of intentional camera movement (ICM) to infuse a unique touch into their images.

Understanding the profound impact of shutter speeds on the mood of night photos will be a key focus. The workshop will also address the significance of lighting in night photography and guide participants on leveraging the distinct characteristics of different times of the evening, night, and weather conditions (such as rain and wind) to add depth and drama to their shots. Empowered with these techniques and insights, participants will learn to transform ordinary night scenes into extraordinary photographic masterpieces.

What Should Students Bring?

Please bring a camera that allows manual adjustment of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings. Suitable types include DSLRs, mirrorless systems, or bridge cameras.

While many techniques in this workshop can be attempted hand-held, it is ideal to bring a tripod or a monopod for the best results, especially for longer exposures and more stable shots.
