Underwater Photography
Underwater photographer Ali Bin Thalith draws on years spent documenting life beneath the surface to explore how underwater photography can inform, educate, and influence the way we relate to the ocean. Grounded in both technical discipline and environmental awareness, the session reflects on working in challenging marine conditions, building visual narratives underwater, and the responsibility that comes with photographing fragile ecosystems.
Rather than focusing on spectacle alone, the talk considers how underwater images can serve a wider purpose, from raising awareness around marine conservation to supporting education, science, and policy. Through examples from long term projects and international platforms, the session highlights the role of patience, preparation, and ethical practice in producing meaningful underwater work.
