Street Photography Today

Street Photography in the Age of the Smart Phone

What is street photography today and what is its place in a time when we are drowning in a constant flow of images and almost everyone has a good-enough camera in their pocket all of the time? Is anyone looking? What should street photographers be trying to do now in order to stand out? Are there subjects or situations that should be off-limits?

What about restrictive privacy laws or local customs in certain countries that make photographing people without their permission difficult. What should your approach be? Do you want to be up-close and intimate, perhaps at times even confrontational, or more distant and observational? Who, and where, are the Robert Frank’s, the Joel Meyerowitz’s, the Gary Winogrand’s and Jay Maisel’s of today?
