Mastering the Art of Double Exposure Photography

Mastering the Art of Double Exposure Photography

Join award-winning National Geographic photographer Daniella Zalcman for a fun, practical and intimate photography workshop that will turn your smartphone photos into beautiful and professional double exposures. We’ll focus on the mechanics of both aesthetics and storytelling through composites: a tool that Daniella has used for years in the context of photojournalism published in National Geographic Magazine, The New Yorker, Smithsonian Magazine, and more

This workshop is open to photographers of all skill levels: come with a smartphone with your favourite images (images made with a smartphone are perfectly fine!) and spend a few hours talking about how to create effective, beautiful, and narrative-focused images.

Daniella will walk you through some of her editorial projects that have utilized composite imagery for some inspiration, and then workshop attendees will spend time both focused on making composites with existing images and thinking specifically about the power of double exposure portraits with some hands on group portrait sessions. No additional technology beyond a smartphone is needed, though you’ll be encourage to download one of several apps (free and paid versions exist) to use the best tools available

What Should Students Bring?
