Nancy Borowick

Nancy Borowick is an internationally renowned photographer, author, teacher and speaker, delivering over 50 speaking engagements each year around the world, bringing her personal story to universities, hospitals, oncology units and community groups globally. Nancy is a graduate of the International Center of Photography and has exhibited her work in over 100 cities worldwide. Her work has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines, including National Geographic, Time Magazine, CNN, PDN, O the Oprah Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Le Monde, Stern Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. In 2019, she was invited to become a Sony Artisan of Imagery, as well as a Kickstarter Thought Leader. Also in 2021, Nancy was elected to the trustee board of the International Center of Photography. Over the last eight years, Nancy has had the pleasure of judging contests such as the Arnold Newman Prize, the Head On Festival Awards, the Documentary Family Awards as well as many open calls for photography communities.

Over the last decade, Nancy has narrowed the focus of her work, telling stories of health, struggle and personal relationships, using empathy, humility and trust as tools to connect with and explore the lives of her subjects. Her latest work continues the dialogue she began with her family work, speaking about trauma and grief within a community of mothers who have lost their children late in pregnancy, a phenomenon not as uncommon in today’s reality as many may have believed. Through portraiture and video interviews, she hopes to engage a wider audience in the conversation around still birth prevention and raise awareness of the steps one can take to hopefully save the lives of thousands of children each year.

Nancy is originally from New York but in 2016 moved to the Pacific island of Guam where she turned her focus to stories important to the people of this U.S. territorial island, especially in light of nuclear threats from their North Korean neighbour just around the corner. After two years of life and coverage on the island, she relocated back to New York only to shift gears in her work, looking at the experience of new motherhood through her lens as she herself became a mother. Missing island life, she recently relocated again, this time to the U.S. territorial island of St. John in the U.S.Virgin Islands where she works and lives with her husband, son, and dog, Einstein.
