The goal of the workshop is to outline the key-points that help to build a successful global career in the world of photography and the arts. Based on case
studies, as well as methods and tools, the participants will be able to recognize their position in a complex global art market, as well as define and
design their desired career path, including gallery representation, institutional positioning and commercial representation.

Ideally, art should not be about being competitive. Yet, the artists need ‘guidance’, and a filtering system which helps to separate the best from the rest. It is therefore important to be aware of what you are doing right and how you can improve your career; how to get to that stage where you can perform your talents to a wider audience. Simply put, a successful artist is an entrepreneur who can manage both the creative side and the business side of the practice – someone who can balance those two essential elements throughout a lifespan in the artworld. During the workshop, the artists will gain better understanding how to make their careers successful and sustainable over time.

After the workshop, the Participants:

• Will have an overview of the complexity of the international photography industry and its main pillars: public and private art institutions, galleries, festivals, photography agencies, collectives, art fairs, and the media.
• Will understand the significance of relevant platforms for exposing the work to reach maximum potential.
• Will understand the idea of representation – both in the art and commercial world, as well as learn how to define expectations towards their representatives and navigate wisely between art and commercial worlds.
• Will be introduced to the strategic approach to advancing their career, based on the individual portfolios.
