Photojournalism as a Career
What essential tools do we need to begin a photojournalism and documentary photography career?
My talk is aimed at photography students interested in pursuing a career in photojournalism, news, and documentary photography. Other than showing some of my work throughout my career, we will also explore some of the most memorable and iconic images from the world of photojournalism that changed or altered public perception and why. We will then discuss the primary tools we need to begin considering a career in the documentary world and how to identify and find potential stories.

Giles Clarke is a photojournalist focusing on capturing the human face of current and post-conflict global issues.
Clarke began his film and photography career in West Berlin as a 16mm news camera assistant at the height of the Cold War during the mid-1980s before switching to a successful professional black-and-white photographic printer career in London and New York. In 1997, Clarke worked in the Richard Avedon darkroom in New York on some now-iconic fashion campaigns before moving into directing film-related TV content in Los Angeles. Since 2004, he has focused on photojournalism, highlighting critical environmental issues, prisons, and the plight of civilians in conflict regions.
